Extra Activities: How Much $$ ?

Dear Reader,

I am contemplating what activities we will do in the fall. I am trying to cut back a little on the amount we are running around. But with 4 kids things still add up. There is a sports center type place that offers homeschool classes. The benefit to us would be that we pay for what we want; kids can do things at the same time but each pursue their own interests. Some are athletic classes but some are academic or just fun. And we could consolidate our running around a lot by just going one morning a week (of course my daughter still wants to do her art classes and my son and younger daughter still want to do dance too!). But when you look at the one big bill it would be to them every month, well, it is overwhelming.

So here are my questions:

What do you consider a reasonable hourly rate for a class? I usually consider $10/hr decent. If it is a class that requires special materials (like pottery) I can see going up to $15/hr. We are in New England, btw, which is not the cheapest area of the country.

How many classes per kid does you family do and how many kids do you have?

Do you have a set amount you budget for outside activities and how much is it?

Thanks for your feedback!
