Naptime and Bedtime Books

Dear Reader,

The Four Moms this week are discussing nap/rest time and what books go well before rest or bed. Here are some of our favorite settling down books:

-Anything from the Frances books by Russell Hoban, by especially Bedtime for Frances. We saw a cartoon version of this book recently in which instead of threatening to spank Frances, the father threatens to give her his angry face. Even our kids agreed that would not be very effective, but they thought it was pretty funny, especially when my husband tried his angry face.

When it Starts to Snow by Phillis Gerahtor. This is a wonderful book. A real joy to read. And something about snow makes me ready for sleep.

Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans, or any of the sequels that are actually by the original author.

The Story of Babar, The Travels of Babar, Babar and His Children, . . .(again look for books by the original author, Jean de Brunhoff)

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile by Bernard Weber (and sequels)

-The Toot and Puddle books by Holly Hobbie

Solomon and the Rusty Nail by William Steig. He also has a lot of other great ones.

I feel like I could go on and on . . .

Happy Reading,

Nebby

  1. My 4 1/2 yo really enjoys the Madeline books and The Story of Babar. We haven’t read any of the Frances books, but they’re on my list of things to look for at the library!
