Some Articles on Education

Dear Reader,

I owe my familiarity with all these articles to Homeschooling Middle East. Penny does a great job of finding interesting things and sharing them with her readers.

“The Problem with Education? Children aren’t Feral Enough” by George Monbiot in The Guardian shows how children benefit from unstructured outdoor time to explore nature.

“School Starting Age: The Evidence” at the University of Cambridge website presents evidence for a delayed beginning to formal education. It sounds like there is a movement in that direction in the UK. One wonders if it will ever take hold in the US. I hope so. We always push for earlier and earlier ed and it just isn’t working.

Bright Children Should Start School at Six, says Academic” by Graeme Patton in The Telegraph discusses evidence that the brightest children actually need a delayed start to academics. Very interesting.

Happy Reading
